• For the firm, David Barnes first thought was about partnership for Phil. Potential partners were preselected in June and couples were evaluated at the June social. Based on his record Phil had made the preselection in 2007, but he lost his wife-to-be before the June social. At the July meeting last year they agreed to give him two years, because of his loss. But the partners were deliberately vague about what the two years meant. Phil's name came up this past June, but only to say "no change in status" so they moved on. The next evaluation was the upcoming November meeting, final votes were confirmed in late December and new partners entered the partnership January 1. These could all be changed, but the partners liked the pattern of things.
